Vinyasa Yoga Training

Thrive vinyasa yoga training starts November 5, 2021!

Do you feel called to dive in depth with Yoga? Do you want to learn to share Yoga with others? Then the Thrive Yoga Vinyasa Training (200 hours Yoga Alliance) is a great start to your development as a yogi and future yoga teacher.

The training is not only a journey of deepening knowledge and professional development, it is also an inward journey; to self-knowledge, wisdom and strength. You can now (without obligation) register as an interested person or register directly for a place in the study programme.

The Thrive Vinyasa Yoga Training

You will be trained as a professional yoga teacher for nine months under the guidance of four permanent (Dutch-speaking) teachers. After successful completion you will receive the Thrive Yoga Vinyasa certificate and you can register with the international quality institute Yoga Alliance®. The Thrive Yoga training is not based on one specific tradition, but brings together different yoga movements to provide insight into the development of yoga. You will be introduced to the Ashtanga Vinyasa approach, with elements of Jivamukti Yoga and you will learn to understand postures from Functional Yoga.   anatomy, philosophy and personal development are the three pillars of the training† Functional anatomy to understand bodies and postures, philosophy to integrate into daily life and personal development to develop competencies and insight into yourself.

The Functional “Grilley Method” we teach was developed by renowned yoga teachers Paul & Suzee Grilley. The functional anatomy forms the basic knowledge about the body and yoga postures. You will not only learn about bones, muscles and connective tissue, but also about mobility. The skeleton of every person is unique. That affects the “range of motion” of every yoga student. The amount of space in the joints (for example) varies enormously per person. The purpose of functional anatomy is to help you understand the wide variety of skeletability so that you can adapt postures for each student. After all, yoga is not about performing postures according to an aesthetic idea, but about the effect of postures in the body. With knowledge of functional anatomy you learn to make postures accessible to all bodies, all ages and all stages of life. Not only will you learn a lot about your own body, you will also extensively examine the anatomy of your fellow students. Every weekend we take the time to connect anatomy with the yoga postures, so that you understand the postures and can teach them clearly (verbal and manual).

Philosophy is the second important pillar of the training. You will be introduced to the yoga philosophy and the development of Yoga through the ages in an interactive way. Reflection is the key. We bring the most important ancient yoga texts to life with reflection exercises and conversation. We invite you to experience the yoga philosophy and to apply it practically in everyday life. We bring Bhakti (devotion) into the training every weekend, telling stories and chanting mantras.

Personal development

Intense yoga practice leads to a process of inner transformation. We regularly see that people take a step towards a yoga lifestyle during their training. We say goodbye to old patterns and/or blockages and cultivate space for creativity and new habits. In the Thrive Yoga Training we guide this inner transformation by working in small groups. We form permanent mentor groups of a maximum of five or six students (and a permanent mentor) in which we take the time to reflect on the personal journey. It is our passion to offer our students a thorough and inspiring deepening of Yoga. We are therefore convinced that we will send skilled and authentic yoga teachers into the world.

For whom?

You can follow this training if you want to lay a good foundation as a future yoga teacher, but also if you do not want to teach and you want to devote yourself to deepening your yoga path and the personal development that comes with it.

We expect that you have been practicing yoga for some time and actively taking classes, or have developed an active self-practice. In principle, the training is for anyone with a serious interest and intention to grow.

The program

Asana in depth

Each weekend contains two sessions of Asana in Depth. During these sessions we take the time to look at, practice and discuss each yoga posture separately. You learn the anatomical functions of the posture, applicable variations, and you learn to transfer the posture safely and clearly with the accompanying verbal instruction and physical assists.

We go in-depth with yoga philosophy and psychology workshops. You learn about the history of yoga, the different (classical and modern) movements and gain insight into the most important yoga texts and foundations of the Yoga philosophy. We bring these ancient yoga texts to life by connecting them to our daily lives. Reflection is the key word here.

Functional Anatomy

In the functional anatomy workshops you learn about the skeleton, joints, muscles and connective tissue. You learn about large variations in the skeleton of every person and you learn to actually see this variation in yourself and in others. In addition, you learn the muscle groups that we strengthen in the yoga class on the one hand and make them flexible on the other. Finally, you will learn about the most important connective tissue structures that play a role in functional movement.

teaching skills

How do you build a good vinyasa lesson? How do you stand in front of a group? How do you use your voice? How do you move through space? These are topics that are discussed during the Teaching Skills workshops. We pay attention to developing competencies and practice sequencing with preparing our own yoga classes.

Vinyasa and flow

Vinyasa means, among other things, linking movement and the rhythm of the breath. Flow is therefore an essential part of a vinyasa yoga class. During the Vinyasa and Flow workshops you learn to give instruction that brings a flow into the lesson. You will learn how to build up, break down and transfer a flow to your students in a fluent way.

yin yoga

You will be introduced to the principles of Yin Yoga. We have chosen this because yin principles can bring a nice balance in a vinyasa yoga class. What is the purpose of Yin Yoga? How do you bring someone in and out of a yin yoga pose? How do you incorporate a yin attitude into a lesson? These questions are answered during the Yin Yoga workshops.

Personal development

Every other weekend we meet in small groups to share, practice, reflect and repeat parts of the material. We create space for attentive listening and sharing our personal experience.
Meditation is an integral part of the training. Every weekend day starts with a meditation technique.

Energy & Pranayama

You follow three pranayama workshops. You will learn about prana, the relationship between breathing and the nervous system and pay attention to the bandhas (tensions). You learn to perform 4 pranayama exercises yourself (ujjayi, nadi shodhana, kapalabhati, Kumbhaka). You learn to guide the abdominal breathing and the ujjayi itself.

Information sessions

The following free information and inspiration sessions with meditation, vinyasa, anatomy and oAt the Zeeburg location outside in the Bogortuin are planned. Join us without obligation and get to know us! Click on the date of your choice below to participate.

What do former participants say?

“A very nice training for those who, in addition to the asanas, also want more depth and insight into philosophy and their own path. Also one that teaches you to take into account different bodies through practical anatomy. Very valuable, and I am glad that I chose this course”

– Marinka (Vinyasa TT 2019)

“I enjoyed the Thrive Teachers course with great pleasure. It is a great training to dive deeper into the world of yoga. There is a lot of personal attention and space to get what you want out of the training. It is true at Thrive, that personal approach and attention is reflected everywhere. Our teachers are also different. That's fun and inspiring. They are very approachable.”
