Has Yin Yoga stolen your heart? Do you want to deepen your Yin Yoga practice? Or do you want to learn how to transfer Yin Yoga? The Thrive in Yoga Training (Yoga Alliance YACEP®) will start in September 2022 and consists of a basic module and a floor module.
Two modules of 100 hours each
The training consists of 2 consecutive modules that: also separately can be followed from each other. Module 1 is the basic module (100 hours) and module 2 is the in-depth module (100 hours).
Both modules provide a good anatomical and philosophical foundation according to the “Grilley Method” based on the principles of Paul & Suzee Grilley (the founders of Yin Yoga). Knowledge of functional anatomy and yin yoga postures is paramount. In addition, we spend a lot of time on personal development, specifically aimed at philosophical reflection. We also pay attention to developing a personal meditation and pranayama practice. We strive not only to share knowledge, but also to actually deepen your development as a yogi. After completing module 1 you will be able to personalize and adapt yin yoga poses to yourself and to every student in a Yin Yoga class. After module 2 you will have even more tools and techniques to go in depth with your yoga students.

Module 1: Yin Yoga 100hr Basic
In the Yin Yoga 100hr Basics you will learn everything about the basics of Yin Yoga so that you can teach yin yoga in a safe and professional way. You learn a lot about your own body and the bodies of fellow students. You will learn about the principles of yin yoga, the anatomy of the lower body and the 7 family poses of yin poses. We pay a lot of attention to philosophy (Taoism and Chakra philosophy), self-reflection, meditation techniques and the art of teaching.
Module 2: Yin Yoga 100hr Floor
Yin Yoga 100hr Module 2 is an in-depth module that you can follow after module 1 or after completing another (basic) yin yoga course. In this module you will learn more about functional anatomy and yin yoga poses, this time focusing on the upper body. We also dive into interesting topics that can enrich your yin yoga practice and teaching. We go in depth with chi and meridians, the Bhagavad Gita, Chakra meditation and Yin Pranayama.

You learn about the skeleton, joints, muscles, connective tissue network and the nervous system. You learn about large variations in the skeleton of every person and you learn to actually see this variation in yourself and in others. In addition, you will learn to influence the main target areas that we hold with yin. Finally, you will learn about the connective tissue network: how yin yoga affects the connective tissue and why.
We take the time to analyze yin yoga poses extensively. We systematically look at the yin family attitudes and matching target areas. You will learn the multitude of variations you can make, how to give clear verbal instruction and how to effectively assist students with aids.
The age-old yoga philosophy can enrich our experience of (daily) life enormously. Every weekend we take the time for a specific philosophical topic. In module 1 we discuss the basic principles of Taoism with specific attention to the concept of Yin/Yang. We also introduce the chakra philosophy, the 7 chakras and the practice of chakra meditation. In module 2 you dive into one of the most important yoga texts there is: the Bhagavad Gita. You reflect on the relevant themes from the work and connect these to your own daily life.
The aim of yoga asana is to harmonize the chi in the body. In module 1 you will learn about chi in the Taoism sessions. In module 2 you will learn more about chi. You learn how chi flows in the body, about the main pairs of meridians and their functions and you learn to activate chi in the body with dynamic exercises and relaxation techniques.
Meditation and pranayama are a regular part of the weekends. We encourage you to develop a personal meditation and pranayama practice. Module 1 introduces you to various meditation techniques, including Yin and Yang meditation and Chakra meditation (Nyasa). In module 2 you will learn Yin Pranayama, Yin Pranayama in Chakra meditation and Kumbhaka (retention).
Every weekend you follow two Yin Yoga classes with the training teachers. You will be given homework in which you will be asked to research and analyze your personal Yin Yoga practice. During the training you will follow a minimum number of Yin Yoga classes with different Thrive Yin Yoga teachers.
In module 1 you spend a lot of time learning to teach, your fellow students, your partner, your pet and anyone else you want. You learn how to structure a lesson and what to say and what not to say in a lesson. In module 2 you will be given more tools to give more substance to your lessons. How do you talk about philosophy or a theme in a lesson? What kind of sequences can you do with yin poses? We also teach you how to shape a slow flow lesson.
Every weekend you come together in a small mentor group in which you reflect on your experiences and development under the guidance of a training teacher (mentor). At the basis is the principle of 'attentive sharing and listening' in which you are challenged to share and listen without communication again. In addition, we use the mentorship to practice teaching and receive feedback.
You can follow the Yin Yoga module 1 if you want to dedicate yourself to a deepening of your yoga path and the personal development that comes with it. Module 1 is also a nice addition to a yoga training that has already been completed. You can immediately start with the module. In general, we expect that you have been doing yoga for some time and actively taking classes, or have developed an active self-practice.
You can follow module 2 when you have followed (at least) a 50hr Yin basic training or the online training “Yin Yoga: The Functional Approach” by Paul Grilley.
Before the start of the training, we give a few (free) inspiring information afternoons with the teachers. You will be given every opportunity to ask questions and discuss expectations. We have a wonderful space where we can learn and practice in a calm and professional environment; 'The Academy for Massage and Movement' in Amsterdam North. The Akademie is located in a historic building and the atmosphere and interior fit perfectly with our vision. At the Academy we have our own bright room (120 m2) and many more facilities, including a garden, kitchen and lounge. The location offers a lot of privacy and sufficient space to work and study in smaller mentor groups. The Akademie is located at Wingerdweg 32 and is easy to reach by ferry from central and is right next to the new metro station (North-South line).
The individual modules take place over 4 1/2 weekends, spread over five months. The two modules together therefore take approximately 9 months to complete. The times of the weekends are:
