Frequently Asked Questions

Trial Lessons

All classes are basically for both beginners and more advanced participants. Take a good look at which style best suits your needs (read about yoga styles) or first make a choice between Yoga and Pilates. Calm yoga styles such as Hatha, Yin and Gentle Flow are great for getting your first yoga experience. Yin Yang Yoga is an intermediate form that goes towards the more relaxed styles such as Vinyasa and Jivamukti Yoga. We recommend trying out different lessons, for example with a five rides intro card, to discover your favorite style, teacher and location.

Do you live (near) Amsterdam and have you not visited us before? you can sign up here for your first trial lesson by choosing two trial lessons in 1 week or five trial lessons in 1 month.

Arrive a little earlier (10-15 minutes before class) the first time to speak to the teacher before class and to register. Nice to read: 10 tips to survive your first Yoga class (our blog courtesy of Holistik)

What would you like to achieve with your lessons? Are you mainly looking for a physical exercise to strengthen your core? Pilates can then be a logical choice. Do you have back problems? Both Pilates and Yoga can help you. For the differences between the two, read more below yoga vs. Pilates. Through this link you will find an explanation about the different Yoga forms.

Lessons are always personal by name. So if you buy two trial lessons, they are also meant for you. The same applies to bus tickets and subscriptions.

First visit

You go to a yoga or Pilates class in comfortable (sports) clothing. Shorts and shirt are sufficient. You do both yoga and Pilates barefoot. Optionally, you can bring an extra sweater for the quiet moments.

Basically how to take only yourself. In the studio there are mats, blocks, blankets and other tools you need. Some participants bring a towel or water bottle for a Pilates class, but for yoga we don't actually recommend drinking shortly before or during the class.

We have good quality mats in the studio, which you can clean yourself after use. However, more and more participants are taking their own mat with them, which is of course allowed and so you have a mat that is only used by you.

Lessons at Thrive

You can book any class you want online with us and take it whenever and wherever you want. Each lesson card can be used in our three studios. Of course you can go to your favorite lesson every week, but you can also vary at Thrive. Lessons are easy through us online class schedule to reserve.

To book classes You can choose to  first a card to buy and then go through the online class schedule to reserve your spot in class. You can also cancel via the timetable up to two hours before the lesson.

If you get stuck or want to read more about how to do that, follow this link; 'functioning website'. If you have any questions feel free to contact us, WhatsApp or call us directly for personal advice.

Our groups are always small because that way we can guide everyone personally. On average we have eight participants in a lesson and a maximum of fourteen. Lessons are already given from three participants and of course evening and weekend classes are a bit busier than during the week.

The Pilates classes last 1 hour and most Yoga classes 75 minutes. The active yoga classes are a bit longer because there is always a meditation and rest moment. We always take plenty of time between classes. After class there is also time for a cup of tea.

A Yoga class usually starts with a short meditation and sharing something from the yoga philosophy. Depending on the style, you then move to stretching or relaxation poses or you start a warm up with 'sun salutations'. The teacher then guides you through a series of postures, whether or not in a flow. Each class ends with 'Savasana' a lying relaxation position, a short conclusion and a cup of tea.

We recommend to participate in the pregnancy yoga† These classes are specifically aimed at pregnancy. Before 14 weeks it is important that you always inform the teacher in advance.

Continue after your trial lessons

After your trial lessons, you can choose a strip card (5 or 10x) or a continuous monthly subscription. If you want to come weekly or more often, a subscription is cheaper than a strip card.  Here you will find all our rates.

You can choose from five lessons in two months or ten lessons in three or six months. In the event of illness or vacation, you can request a free extension as long as your card is still valid. If your card has unexpectedly expired, without an extension, you can reactivate your lessons (within 1 year) for € 5 per lesson.

A monthly subscription is the cheapest way to take lessons. You pay monthly by direct debit. After five months, the subscription can be canceled per month (at least two weeks before the end of the month). You can (reasonably) always pause a subscription per (calendar) month on request in the event of illness, injury or vacation. Read more about our monthly subscriptions here.

We are a yoga school and want to be accessible to as many people as possible. So we would like to offer a personal discount when the situation calls for it, for example if you are on benefits, are a full-time student or single parent or have a city pass. In that case, email us your situation and possibilities and your wishes how often you would like to take lessons.

The studios are always open about 15 minutes before class. When there are no classes, the studios are closed and you can contact us by email WhatsApp, mail or phone reaches. Do not ring the bell or knock during the lessons as this will disrupt the lesson.
